Who Are We?
 

NMAEN is a group of professionals (clinicians and educators) who are committed to quality development of the addiction workforce.

The Mission of NMAEN is to:

  •   provide a forum for the examination and debate of issues concerning education and training in addiction studies
  •   enhance the quality of training and education in addiction studies for the addiction workforce in the State of New Mexico
  •   disseminate professional knowledge and share ideas and scholarship in the field of addiction studies
  •    promote and implement in New Mexico standards for addictions studies programs developed by the International Coalition of Addiction Studies Educators.

How did we get started?

NMAEN was formed at the 40th Annual Silver City Addiction Institute at Western New Mexico University City by a group of educators and professionals who are interested in preserving the fine tradition of that particular event.

Several of us are also members of the International Coalition of Addiction Studies Educators, and were looking for a venue in which to promote the mission of INCASE in the State of New Mexico.

INCASE provides a wide range of opportunities for members to network, participate in curriculum development, have a voice in the development of standards and accreditation for addiction studies programs. Members keep abreast of the developments in the field via annual conferences and regional meetings, the INCASE newsletter, the INCASE professional journal “Journal of Teaching Addictions”, an Internet news group, participation in standing and ad hoc committees, and issues oriented task forces.  For more information on INCASE visit the website. 

Members of NMAEN are professional counselors, educators, preventionists, alternative medicine providers, students and members of the recovering community that wish to share their experience, strength and hope with others. Some serve as faculty at Universities and institutions of higher education around New Mexico.
