22 August 2012

Greetings,

The 46th Annual Silver City Institute is now almost two weeks behind us and planning for the 47th Annual Institute is under way. We had over 100 participants including the diligent NMAEN board members in attendance with two BOD members not able to attend this year. Dr. John Bourdette, Dr. Bob Phillips, Michael Pahos, Nathan Padilla, Waldo Winborn, and I could not have...
pulled this off without the undying support from BOD member Jennifer Cady, who was not able to attend this year. Much gratitude goes out to everyone.

We have come a long way from the splintered group we were six years ago. We rowdy few were on a mission then, and I believe we have come a long way towards our goal. Attendees at this year’s Institute came from as far away as Farmington, NM and Lakeside, AZ. Carlsbad, Roswell, Las Cruces and Albuquerque were well represented. The Native American People were also well represented this year. I have asked Bernice Sice of Acoma to head a subcommittee for next year’s Institute that we may have a full week of a Native American track.

Dr. John Bourdette has now officially retired from NMAEN as our President. He has been a brother and mentor for me from the time we first met many years ago. He will be missed; however, he has committed to return in 2014 as a presenter! Thank you Marsha for letting us borrow him away from you one week a year for these many years.

It is with deep sadness that I write this day of the passing of our colleague and friend Michael Frietze, LADAC. We learned of his passing on the last day of the Institute. Michael and I tested for our LADAC together. We met in 1994 and immediately became the best of friends. The outpouring of love from everyone that day will always be remembered. Michael’s family asked that instead of flowers at his funeral, that monetary donations to be made to NMAEN in his honor. We will be initiating a scholarship in Michael Frietze’s name. More information to follow.

In closing I’d like to say I am truly blessed and honored to serve as President of NMAEN. I believe in accountability, integrity and honesty. Please feel free to contact me at ronaldnestle@yahoo.com with any ideas or concerns….and to hold me to these principles.

Yours in service,

Ronald K. Nestle, BSW, LADAC
